WHO WE ARE
Firebreak Excavating isn't just a name—it's our operational standard. We believe the precision and foresight required to build an effective firebreak represent the highest form of land stewardship. This principle guides every project we undertake, from wildfire defense to site development.

Founded by Steve Stogrin in La Plata County, Colorado, Firebreak Excavating emerged from a critical local need: properties require both development and protection. What began as specialized wildfire mitigation naturally expanded into full-scale earthworks. We discovered that the same skills—reading topography, managing soil, controlling water, and strategic planning—that make a firebreak effective, are exactly what make any excavation project exceptional.
We apply a singular benchmark to all our work: Would this hold as a fireline?
While wildfire mitigation remains our specialty and passion, our expertise covers the full spectrum of land shaping:
We bridge a crucial gap in our region: heavy equipment expertise paired with certified fire science knowledge. Most contractors offer one or the other—we provide both. This dual expertise means your project benefits from thinking that considers both immediate function and long-term resilience.
As a locally owned and operated company, we're invested in this community's safety and beauty. Steve Stogrin is your direct point of contact from initial consultation through project completion. When you work with us, you work with the owner—ensuring clear communication, accountability, and shared commitment to excellence.
